Examination

At MITS School of Biotechnology, Bhubaneswar (MSB), our examination system is designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and academic excellence. We follow a Continuous Evaluation Model in line with Utkal University and statutory guidelines, blending theory with practical assessment to measure a student’s holistic performance.

• Semester System:
  • All undergraduate and postgraduate programs follow a semester pattern. Each academic year consists of two semesters, with end-semester examinations conducted in December and May/June.
• Internal Assessment:
  • Continuous internal evaluation through class tests, mid-semester exams, quizzes, assignments, and seminar presentations.
  • Internal assessment carries 25–30% weightage of the final score (varies by course).
• Practical Examinations:
  • Conducted at the end of each semester to test laboratory skills and application of theoretical concepts.
  • Students are evaluated based on laboratory records, viva voce, and experimental performance.
• End-Semester Examination:
  • Written exams covering the complete syllabus of the semester.
  • Typically carries 70–75% weightage of the total score.
  • Conducted under the supervision of Utkal University guidelines to ensure credibility.

• Grading System: Based on the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and New Education Policy(NEP-2020) from 2024 onwards students receive credits and grades instead of just marks.
• Pass Criteria: Students must secure the minimum qualifying marks in both internal and external components.
• Transparency: Answer scripts are evaluated under strict moderation policies. Students may apply for re-evaluation/rechecking as per university rules.

• Attendance Requirement: Minimum 75% attendance is mandatory to be eligible for appearing in the semester examinations.
• Academic Integrity: MSB maintains strict policies against unfair means during examinations, upholding the values of honesty and professionalism.
