MITS School of Biotechnology (MSB) established the department of Biotechnology in 2003 with MSc-Biotechnology (postgraduate) students and got permanent recognition in 2010-11. Later, an Under Graduate program (B. Sc.) in Biotechnology was introduced in 2004-05. Now the department is running with 64 seats from M. Sc. Biotechnology, 64 seats from Applied Microbiology and 120 seats from B. Sc. Biotechnology with recognition from Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha and regulated as per the syllabus and regulations designed by the affiliating Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The department of Biotechnology feels proud to announce that this Institution has received the prequalification accreditation SSR before NAAC in May, 2024 (cycle-1). The department of Biotechnology is leaping forward with strength by strength over the years.

The department is headed by Dr. Rashmi Ranjan Mishra and it has 22 teaching faculty. 10 of our faculty members are with doctoral degree, and 2 are pursuing.

AboutProgram

The FDP on ” Next-Generation Molecular Diagnostics for Pathogens and cancer Detection ” is designed to help faculty members, researchers, and healthcare professionals understand and master advanced methods for diagnosing viral infections at the molecular level. The program will provide practical insights into the most current techniques, including PCR-based methods, genome sequencing, and other molecular diagnostic tools.

Program Outcomes

• To enhance understanding of molecular techniques used in viral disease diagnosis.
• To introduce new diagnostic technologies and their applications in clinical virology.
• To improve research capabilities and diagnostic accuracy in virology-related fields.
• To discuss the challenges and future directions of viral disease diagnosis using molecular tools.

Dr. Priya Ranjan Debata serves as a full-time Associate Professor in Zoology, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, Odisha, specializing in Molecular Oncology, Molecular Biology of Aging.

Dr. Manjusha Dixit holds the position of Associate Professor School of Biological Sciences, NISER, Bhubaneswar and is recognized as a pioneer in the fields of Tumour Angiogenesis Regulation and Cancer Genetics.

Dr. Rahul Modak is an Associate Professor at School of Biotechnology, KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, with expertise Epigenetics, biochemistry, molecular and cell biology and infection biology.

Dr. Debadutta Bhattacharya serves as Scientist-E ICMR-RMRC, Bhubaneswar. His specialization in Microbiology, Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Antimicrobial resistance.
